“Her” the movie was directed by Spike Jonze and was released in January 2014. The film is a love story between a man and his computer. Theodore Twombly (Joaquin Phoenix) is a lonely card writer who purchase the new OS1, which is advertised as the world's first artificially intelligent operating system, "It's not just an operating system, it's a consciousness," the ad states. He soon finds himself falling for his OS. But Theodore is also aware of the complications this poses. When Samantha the OS voiced, by Scarlett Johansson, realizes that she doesn't have a body, how does she deal with new feelings of insecurity? How does he break the news to his friends that he's dating his computer? What do their dates look like? How does society react? How do they handle physical intimacy? And what happens when Samantha evolves beyond Theodore's capabilities? How does he measure up to someone who can literally carry on thousands of conversations a moment, and is constantly growing, learning and becoming more evolved? These are all problems human relationships face. “Her” explores fundamental issues of love, loneliness and humanity. His love interest, the OS, is solely a voice over character. The movie is filled with flashbacks to his previous relationship. Spike Jonze intentionally leaves questions dangling throughout the movie. There is a mystery introduced about Samantha in the film’s final stretch, and it culminates in an unspeakably beautiful, thought-provoking climax, but the central mystery of her conscious being never gets solved.
