PATHOPHYSIOLOGY
Etiology:
Injury or trauma to the spinal cord is the common cause of quadriplegia or Tetraplegia. And this can be caused by:
• Car or sports accident.
• Tumor in the spinal canal. 3
Quadriplegia can also be caused by diseases, such as:
• Polio
• Transverse myelitis
• Spina bifida
• Multiple sclerosis
• Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). 3,7
Pathophysiology:
The spinal code is in charge of sending signals to and from the brain, then the brain interprets these signals. So with spinal cord injury, the motor and sensory function will be absent below the level of injury. If that injury is complete, the patient's condition rarely improves. 2,5 Quadriplegia is resulting from a high-level spinal cord damage (injury), and usually

Prognosis:
In 1980s, although promising advances in basic spinal cord repair research have been made, no effective therapy resulting in major neurological or functional recovery after tSCI is available. 4 In 2008, Ditunno et al published the results of a panel study in which the priorities for recovery of independent functional activities after tSCI were questioned. Recovery preferences for bladder and bowel function were the highest, closely followed by recovery of walking. The severity of the injury is the principal prognostic factor for the prediction of ambulation outcomes after tSCI. In clinical practice, the distinction between “complete” and “incomplete” SCI is commonly made to express the injury’s severity. 4 If diagnosis of the cervical spine injury is delayed, it can have serious consequences for the patient. About 5% cervical fractures are not noticed and nearly 2/3rd of these patients suffer from further damage of the spinal cord. In almost 30% cases where diagnosis has been delayed, the cervical spine injury has been found to progress to permanent neurological.
