Spiritual Assessment
Spirituality is important and essential to the wellness of a human being and healthcare as well. It is a concept that derives different / many perspectives from different people. Some may refer to it as a sense of connection to something bigger than ourselves which may result from intimate life experiences that may result from a search for meaning in life - something that touches us all. Some may describe it as an experience that is sacred or transcendent or a deep sense of aliveness and interconnectedness with a higher super power. Do I participate in religious activities? By faith, I do participate in religious activities through prayers, praise and worship either at home or at church, believe in Jesus therefore observing the right of birth during Christmas and his death and resurrection during Easter holidays. By faith, I practice my nursing career knowing and believing that other than medicines, there is more to the power of healing which is provided by the love and care from God.
4. Do I pray? Yes I do pray. I pray for my life, my family, friends, the sick and less privileged individuals within our community, the underserved population, my work mates and physicians for God to continue to give each one of us the caring hearts and compassion that we ought to have, so as to be able to provide the care that is so much deserved by our patients. That god may give us the intelligence and skills to be the best at what we do.
5. Do I believe spiritual care is an important component in providing health care? Spirituality brings purpose and meaning to health care. It provides a chance for deeper interconnectedness between the nurse and the patient by allowing a sense of healing, reflection, caring, listening, and building trustful relationships.
