One of these animals is the Spotted Grass Frog. The Spotted Grass Frog has adapted to living and surviving in the desert by emerging during warm wet nights to feed. This species is associated with most habitats, including permanent or temporary dams, ponds, flooded grassland, slow moving creeks, farmland, woodland and coastal areas. Spotted Grass Frogs are extremely quick to move into new pods and wetlands. If there have been recent heavy rains or floods nearby, this frog may be popping up all over the place to get cool. The frog is usually found in grass or under other cover, near a still water source. As this habitat has a source of water very close by, it benefits the Spotted Grass Frog by …show more content…
The large ears have several purposes. One of these is to listen for predators or prey because the Bilby has poor vision. Another important reason for having large ears is for “thermo regulation”. This helps the Bilby keep its body cool while living in such a hot climate. When blood flows into the Bilby’s large ears, the larger surface area of the ears allows the blood to be cooled down by the air around it. This prevents the Bilby from getting too hot during the day and from losing body heat quickly at night. The bilby has sharp claws similar to ones of a bandicoot. This lets the bliby burrow through the arid earth which many pawed animals can’t do. The Bilby has a backward-facing pouch so that dirt does not get into the pouch when it is digging. Living underground also helps the Bilby keep cool in the hot environment. The Bilby is nocturnal which helps it to survive in the heat of the desert as it avoids the heat during the day as well as
