The squirrel monkey has many specific behaviors that pertain to them like urine washing, specific calls, jumping/leaping through the trees, and using their tail for balancing. The proximate usage of urine washing is due to their sense of tracking and constant reminder of dominance. The ultimate reason they use this for protection is like their bread crumbs when you get lost in a forest, they are able to re-trace themselves to get back home to where they will be safer.
