Anker was a small child during the war, living in the town of Barse of a thousand people, when Denmark was occupied by the German army. Germany respected Denmark's political independence as long as Denmark did not resist the occupation. The Danish King and the Government, therefore, co-operated with Germany. Ration coupons were needed for groceries and coal to keep their houses warm. Black blinds on the windows at night prevented planes flying overhead making a position known. The children sat under the table when planes flew over at night. His father and cousins would pick up guns that the British dropped by parachute.

She has worked in many capacities as a nurse. In St. Thomas she worked in psychiatric departments, in nursing homes and in home care. She has used Reflexology, Reiki and Therapeutic Touch in her work. They adopted Maria on Sept. 23, 1995, a child from Guatemala.

Every other year Anker returns to Denmark to visit his siblings. Since he left Denmark in 1970, he now realizes that the laws are more fair in Canada than in Denmark. The taxes in Denmark are very high and so many people receive many social benefits now. By law now, all the farms must grow something green all year round., and not let the fields lie fallow. The winds in Denmark are so strong, that they blow the good earth away unless there is something growing with roots that hold the earth down.

Canada is his home now. He feels that he is better off here in Canada than he would be in Denmark. In the last ten years , immigrants from places like Greece and Turkey , are now living in Denmark, have changed the religious landscape with many Muslim
