Introduction: Staffordshire bull terrier from the terrier group. I’ve chosen them because I own one and they are recently getting used for work in the UK and deserve recognition for this.

The Staffordshire bull terrier is a medium sized dog weighing between 11kg to 17kg and standing around 35cm to 41cm tall. They are nicknamed staffy, staffie or the nanny dog. The Staffies origin is England. They share the same ancestry as the bull terrier. Despite being developed as a fighting dog in the 19th century they are now known as a good family pet. Their life expectancy is 12-15 years.

Physical Appearance

Coats colours are of many different varieties, most popular coat colours for the staffie are, Brindle, Red, Fawn, White, Black or Blue, or any one of these colours with white.

Characteristics

Staffies are known to be energetic and enthusiastic in everything they do and remain on alert. This breed's temperament is described as tough, courageous, and stubborn. They love being around people that makes them a suitable family dog.

UK Work

Police have recruited Staffies to be trained to detect drugs, currency and firearms. The first Staffie police dog was recruited in 2012 and the police have since then been adopting unwanted Staffies from dog shelters. One of the staffies used as a police dog is Stella who won the Public Service Animal of the Year award at the Daily Mirror's Animal Hero Awards in 2015. She was abandoned at a dog shelter.
