Dear Ms. Clark and Miss Groulx.
Today, in class, during our Starfish Retrospective activity, I colored my starfish in beautiful hues of scarlet, carmine, and vermilion, blending them to create a stunning, gradient appearance. More importantly, though, I assessed what I was struggling with in terms of synthesis essay writing.
The primary error that I noticed myself making was poor, lengthy planning of my essay. Though my plan wasn’t exactly terrible, it wasn’t great either. This element of my writing is very similar to a pattern that I detected back in the first trimester and made a goal to improve my writing during the second trimester of AP Lang. Previously, I had noticed that my commentary/analysis was not brief enough, yet did not thoroughly analyze the text and its rhetorical devices. I then made a goal in my trimester 1 reflection to write concise analyses that dig deeper into the text and flow well with smooth transitions. Although my timed essays do not have too much commentary, I noticed that my social issues synthesis essay did. My first confirmation paragraph was well over a page long and, though well-written, was not concise and could have been shortened to be clearer. Though I have gotten closer to that goal, I still have yet to reach it and will be continuing to pursue the goal before the AP exam in
