On April 14th, at the Star Wars celebration in Orlando, the first official teaser for Star Wars: The Last Jedi was released. The two minute video already hints at multiple possibilities for the movie, being released this December. The video begins with a shot of an unknown landform, which hints at the setting for the movie. The shot makes it look like a planet, however it is really just part of the ground on Ahch-To. The land that can be seen is entirely black and gray, hinting at the tone and mood of the upcoming film. We have already been told that this will be the “darkest” Star Wars movie yet, which can be proved by looking at the dark colors of the setting. Rey’s theme music begins. We can already tell that the movie is going to center around her, and not the other members of the new trio (Poe and Finn). Finn only makes one appearance in the trailer, and Poe does the same. The next shot is of an ocean or body of water, where we can hear a voice saying, “Breathe...just breathe.” This voice almost sounds like Luke Skywalker’s, although that can not be confirmed. This hints at a training session with Luke and Rey, almost like how Yoda trained Luke in the original trilogy. We see an island, which is similar to the secluded training spot where Luke worked. We see a shot of Rey, standing on a cliff, overlooking a body of water, with waves crashing. The shot changes to a hand, most likely Rey’s if you look at the outfit on her wrist, that is near the ground, with levitating pieces of something broken. We hear Luke’s voice again, saying, “Now, reach out. What do you see?” The shot turns black. Obviously, this shot shows Rey learning to use the force, starting out by moving small objects, as most learn. Luke is saying these things to help her focus and get in touch with the force.
