The bulk of the combat in the games in centered on the ground, however space combat scenes are shown and there is some emphasis on how the battles are in space. The ground combat however is very similar to the combat of modern times. While BioWare did take inspiration from Star Wars slightly in this case, as a video game, it is necessary for the game to have its own take. Since Mass Effect is a video game, more options for the consumer are available as to how they want to experience their story. All of the choices in the game play a part in the ending of the trilogy. For example, a character could die in the beginning of the story that could drastically alter events later in the game or even alter the ending of the entire trilogy. These choices are put on the player, making for an even more immersive experience. This is mainly the result of the fact that Mass Effect is a video game and therefore the linear does not have to be linear. The gameplay also contributes to how the immersion handles in that since you play the story actively, the consumer feels they have a more important role in the experience.
