Starved Rock is the second park in Illinois to be created in 1911 (“About Starved Rock”).” Starved Rock State Park located along the Illinois River in La Salle County is one of the Illinois most beautiful destinations” (“About Starved Rock”). The name Starved Rock comes from a Native legend when the Ottawa and the Pottawatomie tribes surrounded the grounds until the hapless eventually all passed from starvation.
