Animal Cruelty According to Statistic Brain, the most common type of animal abuse and cruelty is when the owner will neglect or abandon the animal. This has happened thirty two percent of the time in all of the reported cases so far. The owner has a responsibility that they have taken and should fulfill it. Animals are living things too and should live in the wild in order to lead a natural life. In zoos and circuses, the trainers give the animals food in a way that they would never receive it. The trainers will award them food and make them drink out of a bottle, when really in the wild they would have to hunt for it themselves. Sadly, many people think that animals are meant for our entertainment or gaming and are born to do that. …show more content…
The wild orca named Takara was separated from her mother at a very young age and shipped off to Sea World to swim around and be used for entertainment, when in reality she would have been home with her mother. Orcas usually live their whole life with their mother. (Ingrid Newkirk, Los Angeles Times, p. A. 13) There has been very many wild orca cases, but this is just one of them. Another example is that horses are forced to do ( mostly in the south) a trick called the “big lick”. In this the trick, the horse will take very high and exaggerated steps. It is one of the most impressive tricks that can win you a ribbon, so many people do it. The most common way to make the horse take exaggerated steps is called soring. In this process, owners will put chemicals on the tissues to burn the skin. Next, they will put metal chains that lay on the burnt skin and the chains continuously hit the skin while the horse is performing. To add to the pain, the horses perform in heavy, stacked shoes. If someone suspects a trainer and decides to inspect the horse, the trainer has got that all covered. To avoid detection the trainers will numb the horse or beat them to train them to not react to the pain. (Joseph Tydings TCA News Service n.p.) That must be so …show more content…
One of the most popular stories is about a wild orca named Tilikum. He lived until thirty six years old, but Balcomb’s study shows that male orcas usually live up to fifty to sixty years old. He was placed in a tank and was often seen getting bullied by other orcas in his tank. Orcas can come from different pods. Different pods speak different languages, so none of the orcas would be able to communicate with each other unless they were in the same pod previously. Tilikum was not able to communicate with anyone in his tank. Also, orcas can swim up to hundred miles a day, but at Sea World the orcas are limited to a very small pool. This way they probably do not get enough space to swim around and to be active. (Libby Baldwin Tampa Bay Times p.1) In addition, once animals are in captivity or born captive, they are treated so well. Gorillas are fed with baby bottles and trainers will feed other animals. (Joanna Klein New York Times n.p.) That is a very good thing, but if they are ever released back in the wild, they will not know how to react and get food for themselves which can lead to death. They would never get food like this in their natural habitat. They would die faster if the trainers did not give them some independence in the time they were at the shelter or zoo. The animals should at least be trained a bit before they leave to know how to react in the wild and how to respond to the environment. That would
