Many of Steigmann’s memories are very unclear because of how young he was when the Holocaust began. His family members told him about some experiences he had occurred. Steigmann’s father shared with him a memory of how his father had to give up his winter jacket in order to get a loaf of bread to avoid starvation. His parents also told Sami that he was near death. A German Woman who would bring food to the guards, saw young Sami struggling and smuggled him milk. Her generous acts saved Steigmann life. At the end of the Holocaust, they were liberated by the Red Army and were able go back to their “normal” lives.
