Stephen F. Teiser is trying to understand the concept of wheel of rebirth and find its place in the Buddhism. Wheel is a common metaphor to show the ongoing cycle of death and birth. The paintings of the wheels of rebirth are very complicated and contain many aspects of Buddhism cosmology. Thus, Six Paths of rebirth are laid inside the wheel, showing different forms of rebirth a person could has. The Twelve Conditions are usually placed outside the inner circle and tells about the stages in the life and death of the individual. Demon Yama is holding the entire wheel, signifying that all forms of life are the subject to pain as punishment for one’s deeds.
