The subject for this assessment is Stephina. She is a four-year-old African American female in the 3/4s room at ECDC-SMC. Stephina has brown eyes and black hair that is usually braided. She is the older of two children in her family and lives with her mom, dad, and little sister who is one year old. She enjoys playing with her little sister and helping her learn new things. While at school she enjoys playing with blocks, doing arts and crafts, and playing in dramatic play. Her best friend is Caroline and they are seen playing all different types of games. Stephina is a very outgoing little girl with a big imagination. Her favorite movie is Frozen and her favorite character is Elsa.
Setting
The setting for this observation was in the hallway outside of the 3/4s room at ECDC-SMC. I was sitting on the floor across from her with her back facing the classroom and my back facing the entrance of ECDC from the Havican hallway. During the assessment, there was another girl doing an assessment but it did not seem to bother Stephina’s focus on the questions that I was asking her. In the middle of the assessment a class was in the hallway about to go outside. During this time Stephina did look at what the class was doing and where they were going. Stephina was very fidgety during the first few tasks; she was sitting down and spinning…show more content… Is this marker longer, is this marker longer, or are they the same?” Her response to this question was “ This one is longer because you moved the other one so it’s shorter.” With this response she was referring to the marker that was closer to her as being the shorter one. While responding to these questions she was spinning around in circles on the floor but still seemed to be putting a lot of focus on what was being asked of
