There is a stereotype about America that says when you turn 18 years old, you need to leave your parents’ house, find your own job, and pay your own bills. Once you leave at 18, you can never move back in again.

While this is not true for every American, it is very common for Americans to move out of their parents’ house at a younger age than in other countries. On average, about 40% of people ages 18-34 in America live with their parents.

In Hong Kong, about 76% of people ages 18-35 live with their parents.
