When dissecting a piece of literature, there is always one character that has a disease. Throughout the piece, you just keep hoping that he/she will somehow survive even though the chances are highly unlikely. When I think of characters dying of a disease, I think of Steve Miller from The Last Song and Jaime from A Walk to Remember.
In The Last Song, Steve Miller, Ronnie’s father, is deeply hated by his own daughter due to the divorce. Throughout the book, Steve tries growing closer to Ronnie, just to continuously be pushed away. Eventually, it is revealed that Steve has cancer and is scheduled to pass away. When Ronnie hears the news, she instantly pushes her stubbornness to the side and takes good care of her father. She can’t help but feel foolish for all the time she wasted, not knowing her father was going to die. She later decides to finish a song her dad once started, knowing it would make him happy. After his death, she decided to attend Julliard because that was always her fathers dream. …show more content…

The whole point of Nicholas Sparks, the author, giving Jaime, a sweet, innocent girl, leukemia, was to teach Landon a lesson about the gift of life.
