In the book Stone Fox by John Reynolds Gardiner there is a little young man named Little Willy lives on a farm with his Grandfather who is very playful and wakes up really early in the morning to make breakfast. But one day Little Willy woke up, but Grandfather was not there, he was still sleeping. So Little Willy and Searchlight ran to Doc Smith and got her to come over and check on Grandfather so Doc Smith checked him and said he was fine, but his body is slowly fainting. Then, Little Willy thought that if he harvest the crops and cleaned stuff up on the farm Grandfather would feel much better, but he needed to rent a horse, but Farmers didn’t like to over work their horses, but he decided he would pay them so he looked his Grandfather’s chest but it was empty. …show more content…
Unfortunately, Grandfather did not get any better. Then one day a strange man named Clifford Snyder walked into their house and said they have not paid their taxes for ten years, which means Grandfather has to pay five hundred dollars or give up the farm but they had was fifty dollars. Then Little Willy started asking people if they thought he should sell the farm or not. Most people said that he should sell the farm but he did not agree with them. Later, he saw a poster in Lester’s General Store advertising National Dogsled Races and the winner would receive five hundred dollars but to get in you had to pay all the money he had. A few days later the race started and he was going against Stone Fox, who has never lost a race before.
