Whaling
Sixteen thousand whales have been killed every year for 83 consecutive years. Whaling is an industry of the past and should most defiantly be banned. People go out every day killing whales mainly in Japan, Iceland and Norway for food and oils. At first it might have been alright when there were plenty of whales but now they have taken advantage of it and gone over the top and they have become an endangered species and if they don’t stop they will die off.
The first obvious argument to stop whaling is the significant number decrease in whales. Earths endangered species says that there are 11 species of the 78 species whales that are endangered. Whales may be a staple food in some countries but there is plenty of other food around for them to eat. Also commercial whaling doesn’t create the same income it used to, people use to use whales for oil for lamps and candles and to lubricate machines and to even use in margarine, lipstick. But no they have found alternatives for these things but some countries still kill whales for there meat. The smartest thing to do now is let whales repopulate and uses them to attract people and tourists and make money that way (but not in Antarctica).
The second main reason to stop whaling, japan (one of the main whalers) says they only kill whales for ‘research purposes’ to find out how many whales populations but…show more content… Even though japan says whale meat is very healthy but it is highly concentrated with mercury. Mercury is very toxic; one drop of it can poison an entire pod of whales. So if there was mercury in the whale when you ate the meat you probably would die.so therefore the whale meat is not so healthy. Also whales are killed in such a cruel way, they use grenades that have such a large vibration force and high frequency it causes them to go unconscious but it sometimes it can takes some time and they die in
