Straight Outta Compton is a biopic about the struggles of each individual before N.W.A, how they formed N.W.A, and about their successes and downfall. Overall, there are two reviews that have somewhat a similar review for this movie, but they definitely have their standing opinions which conflict. I find this biopic to fit the “general” idea of how a biopic should be also with some of the reviews on their stance on the misogynistic portrayals of the female characters, and also as well as the views between the races that were featured in this biopic. “The general idea of how a biopic should consists of three ideas which is its ability to present an accurate picture of reality, a more or less plausible account of historical events. To fabricate a version of history that may be subjective, idiosyncratic, prejudiced. The third idea is to fashion a commercially attractive product in which questions of accuracy and evidence are actually seen as irrelevant” (Inglis 83). Following these prerequisites, I believe that Straight Outta Compton followed two of the three guidelines because the background story of N.W.A started with a group of friends in Compton who wrote music and created beats for the purpose of telling their experiences in the hood.
