What this Module is about
Introduction from the Module Leader
This module is about the interface between business and government. What should government do with respect to supporting and regulating industries and firms? What policies are available and what are their aims and effects? The module starts with an overview of the theory needed to analyse firms and industries before moving on consider structure and the issues posed for regulators acting in the public interest. Module Aims
This module aims to further develop students’ ability to apply appropriate theoretical frameworks to interpret and evaluate important contemporary UK and international economic issues, policy responses and controversies.
Module Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the module, you will be able to
Identify and critically evaluate theories and arguments relevant to business enterprise/industry structure, behaviour and performance, objectively and employing robust evidence.
Apply appropriate microeconomic tools, frameworks and evidence to the economic analysis and evaluation of policies relating to business enterprise.
Critically evaluate specific problems, relevant institutions and policy responses using these approaches.
