Overall, I felt that the results of the Strength’s Finder evaluation were mostly accurate. According to Rath and Conchie (2008), the strength of “Executing” is described as knowing how to make things happen, working tirelessly to find a solution, and turning ideas into a reality (p. 24-25). Most of my friends, family, and co-workers would speculate that I fit neatly and seamlessly into this role. I was specifically recognized as an achiever in the Executing category. An achiever is known to have a great deal of stamina and perseverance while taking great satisfaction from being busy as well as productive (Rath and Conchie, 2008, p. 103). I found myself comparing many of my leadership experiences to that of Wendy Kopp. Ms. Kopp identified an issue in regards to educating students in poor, urban areas. As Rath and Conchie (2008) wrote, “People who are strong in the Relator theme enjoy close relationships with others. They find deep satisfaction in working hard with friends to achieve a goal” (p. 211). Although, I do enjoy a few, close relationships with certain people, I thoroughly enjoy working hard individually to understand a process or situation before focusing on a specific goal. For me, it may take longer to wrap my head around an idea or mandate, but I want to achieve understanding myself before working with others. In my mind that benefits not only myself, but helps me contribute more to the group.
