Stress is something that everyone has been through, or will go through, at some point in their lives. I, personally, have dealt with a lot of stress in my life. I am actually dealing with stress at this very moment. I chose this topic because I felt that, while doing research, I could find a lot of resources or tools to help me deal with my stress. The resources and tools that I have found will be very helpful for me when dealing with my stress in the future. I also hope to spread my knowledge to others that need help dealing with their stress.
Several things can cause stress. One of the biggest causes of stress is financial hardship. Financial hardships tend to bring on a long list of issues. A person’s job can also cause a significant amount of stress. One can be dealing with a difficult supervisor or boss, or could be constantly clashing with their co-workers. They could also just overall hate their particular job or field. This is why it is so important to figure out what your passion is, find your niche in this world, and just go with it. As stated in Stress Management - Causes of Stress, “Being unhappy with your work or finding your job too demanding can lead to chronic stress” (www.webmd.com, April 20, 2011). Marriages and relationships are also a very huge stress factor. It can be very exhausting and stressful dealing with a marriage or relationship that is on the verge of being broken. It is even more exhausting trying to hold it together if it is just simply not going to work. Aside from cheating and abuse, communication is one of the most common issues in marriages and relationships. There are many other causes of stress, but I personally feel that these three issues (financial hardship, job, marriages/relationships) are the most common and most significant. Every person’s body responds differently to stress. As explained in Stress Symptoms: Effects on Your Body and Behavior, “Indeed, stress symptoms can affect your body, your thoughts and feelings, and your behavior” (www.mayoclinic.com, July 19, 2013). Many people dealing with stress will experience headaches. Other physical symptoms would include teeth grinding, muscle tension, fatigue, and decreased sex drive. Most of the time, fatigue can be a result of the insomnia one may be experiencing, which is also caused by stress. A person dealing with stress may also isolate themselves from their family, friends, and co-workers. Said person may also develop anxiety. Most of the time, stress and worry go hand in hand. It is very likely for a person that is stressed out to be worried about something, especially if said person is enduring a financial hardship. Being in the midst of a financial hardship, one can be worried about where their next meal is going to come from, or how would they be able to pay their mortgage or rent that coming month. Feelings of sadness will eventually accompany those thoughts and worries, ultimately leading into depression. It is extremely important for one to recognize the symptoms immediately and figure out what would be the best ways to cope with or relieve their stress. Everyone has their own particular way of dealing with or coping with stress. Some ways are very helpful and healthy, and some ways are extremely unhealthy and could possible make things a lot worse.
