Every thirty-one minutes, someone is killed in the United States as a result of an alcohol-related motor vehicle crash (ND.gov). This stat is simply unacceptable, this number is too high. The lives lost because of individuals driving under the influence has been at a steady rise. It seems that every day when I turn on the news someone is in a drunk driving accident. This issue is something that we can all be affected by, many of us have been. I for one have known a handful of families that have been affected by drunk drivers, this affect was the loss of a loved one. Attitudinal inherency stands for beliefs or attitudes which prevent the implementation of the plan or causing harms. When dealing with drunk driving many ideas have been created to cub its affect. One of these attitudinal beliefs can be found in a US news article titled, There Are Better Ways to Keep Drunk Drivers Off the Road. The millions of dollars that would be spent in lowering the DUI limit to 0.05 would divert critical resources from that effort. And by arresting tens of thousands of moderate social drinkers every year who have not operated their vehicles unsafely but been deemed legally impaired, we have further burdened our overtaxed legal and correctional systems (Solomon).
This quote acknowledges the failing current ideas to curb drunk driving as well as the solution that this proposed policy wants to enact. There is enough historical data to show that no safety benefits are achieved by focusing on drivers with BACs below 0.08 (Schofield). This negates all ideas and perceived benefits that come with this common theory that fights drunk driving.
This policy would create a safer world and could definitely decrease the numbers of drunk drivers on the road. As more advantages come, disadvantages follow, this is where the significance of the policy is seen. The significance of the policy is simple, it saves lives. This is not something that should not be taken
