Viewing parents differently and experiencing loss are two major factors in changing who someone is and who they can be. For example, Lily, the main character of The Secret Life of Bees, goes through a change in perception of her parents and Romeo. Romeo and Juliet experience loss throughout the book/play. Changing perspective can change the way one views their parents, then changing themselves, negatively or positively. Towards the end of the book, T-Ray, Lily’s father, comes back to find her and he experiences a lot of emotion when he comes out of his comfort zone.
