I work as a Medical Assistant for 14 years and I use technical writing for my job all the time. Five years ago, when health care began using electronic record system, communication skills become some of the most essential qualification for medical professionals. Every single action, phone call, conversation, instructions, letters, referrals and patient’s teaching must be documented using appropriate language and format.
Verbal communication skills are also very important to deliver the quality of care for patients and provide support for medical staff to coordinate flowless services. It is essential to understand the audience we speak and have ability to explain medical terminology in a simple term for people without a medical background.
