When examining how humans create relationships that lead to forming community and a sense of belonging, we must look at how these relationships form. Any ultimate analysis of human, interpersonal relationships (e.g., friendship, marriage, etc.) will show (1) that basic needs can be satisfied only interpersonally, and (2) that the satisfactions of these needs are precisely the basic therapeutic medicines, namely, the giving of safety, love, belongingness, feeling of worth, and self-esteem (Maslow, 1954). The articles, books, and journals read when researching how school leaders and teachers measure motivation and outcomes of urban education schools through the lense of creating a sense of belonging, can be placed in three themes: Sense of Belonging, Endurance and Urban
