I am a first generation student in my family. Taking the first initiative to come to Western Illinois University was a challenge already because neither parents nor older sister attended college. It was even harder to decide to do my internship aboard because I did not know the complete process. I had to seek help academically and financially to be able to even think about interning abroad. The impact I foresee this abroad experience will have on me is that I will grow as an individual and learn that there are a variety of opportunities. I had to be able to seek them on my own in order for me to be successful. The SAE program is exceptional that I can customize the internship. It ranges from six to twelve weeks long depending on the hours I need for my internship credits hours at my home institution Western Illinois University. I feel confident that this option will give me the ability to improve a professional portfolio, enhance my resumé, increase professional network internationally, and gain different communication skills. The SAE works extensive in matching the individual with a site. This is important to me because I will be assured with a company based on my specific needs determined by my aspirations and goals. Having the guarantee that I will be placed into a program of my choice motivates me to attend this program. My ultimate career goal is to go to physical therapy school; SAE will allow me to strengthen my graduate school application. Additionally, they provide housing for the duration of the program.
