Like all books, there is always a conflict that catches your attention. For me, a book has to catch my attention during the first three to five pages in order for me to have interest. Ted Dekker had accomplished by getting my attention on the first sentence. “They call it the cradle of Islam”. When I read the first sentence, instantly I knew there was going to be a fascinating plot here. When you hear the word cradle, you think of babies, but if you have some background knowledge of the Islam communities; you know it has a whole different meaning. “Blink” by Ted Dekker is a perfect match as a dystopian novel. The hero in this book is Seth Borders. He has this mysterious gift where he can see in the future. He believes that his gift is to help Miriam (the Muslim Princess who has fled the country) not be capture by the Saudi Arabia police and the American police. He uses his gift to help see what the police next move is, so they are always a few steps ahead of the police. Seth is the accepted hero who has the Utopian perception of the dystopian. He realizes that what Miriam and her people go through to honor their religion is mind blowing and wrong. The conflict of the novel that symbolizes dystopian is the Princess Miriam. Miriam comes from Saudi Arabia and her father tries to force her into marrying a sick man and if she doesn’t, the penalty is death. Now that she has fled the country to escape her destiny, she makes the perfect dystopian. The climax of the novel is unresolved. At the end of the book, Seth saves Miriam who was tricked by the man she loved to go back to Saudi Arabia and is forced to marry a sick man. Seth saves the day in his shining armor, but they story ends with both of them still on the run from the police. They were the new Bonnie and Clyde. Although, it didn’t end in a happy way where everyone forgives each other and lets Miriam go, it came down where Seth spilled his love for Miriam and swear that he will never let them take her again and that he will always protect her with his
