The MOC program is a lifelong opportunity for a physician to continue to learn and assess their skillsets in six core competencies. The performance differential would be not practicing as an OB/Gyn in any major hospital that would require certification as a term of employment, and that can be valued by comparing the annual salaries for OB/Gyn’s practicing in hospitals vs. solo practitioner’s $225K vs. $175K /year (Leslie Kane, 2011, p. 7).
TEV= 0 - $870 + $50,000 or TEV = $49,130/year

Public relations are encouraged through executive attendance at profession or society meetings. The ABMS has for the most part been promoting MOC as an enhancement to the credentials already maintained by the physician. The only direct marketing that is performed by the board is on the day of the candidates’ oral examination, which is the last step in the initial certification process, The Director of MOC presents 4-6 PowerPoint slides identifying the importance of MOC. The candidates are then informed that upon a successful completion to the certification process, they will be required to start the MOC process Jan 1 of the immediately following year or loose there certification the following December 31st. The first year participants are not required to pay the base fee for the first year of participation as a reward for completing the arduous and costly ($3,285) certification process. (ABOG, 2015, p. Basic Written/Oral). After this initial face to face, The primary marketing method is through email. The Diplomate will be contacted at the beginning of each year with instructions on what is required to complete for that year. As new articles are release in the Part II component, three times a year, an email is sent out notifying participants of the new articles and notifying non-participants as to the deadlines and repercussions of non-participation. As the year proceeds and the deadlines come closer,
