Ally Nickerson has a lot of trouble in school especially in subjects like reading and writing, she tried to distract from this by acting out in class and getting in trouble but it just makes things worse. In the beginning of the book she accidentally gives her pregnant teacher a sympathy card for a baby shower and then refuses to write a paper which is the the last straw and causes her to have to change classes. She expects her new teacher to be the same as her former teachers however Mr. Daniel’s is very different he takes a different approach at teaching his students and actually believes believes that she is smart and that there is more to Her story.
