In an article by Thomas Duffy (2014), he discusses a patient he recalls who was terminally ill with multiple myeloma, who mostly lived her life outdoors in a very active lifestyle. She knew that her future was full of pain and suffering due to the fact that she would now be unable to participate in the activities that made her life enjoyable. She asked about assisted death, which was illegal in the United States, so she asked that he give her enough pain medication to comfortably manage her pain. Duffy states that he prescribed her enough narcotic pain medication to cover her until her next appointment in ten days. He states that he knew that the amount of narcotics he prescribed to her was enough to help her end her life, and that although
