After reading the chapter over abortion and the two videos assigned, I was interested in McGinn’s, Beckwith’s arguments and how they perceived abortion. In McGinn’s critique on abortion he finds that the decision of abortion is not always black and white similar to what Planned Parenthood stated in their video. In McGinn’s abortion chapter, he stated that an important factor whether to decide to abort or not was sentience which would then require a better reason to make abortion morally defensible. In comparison to Beckwith’s argument against abortion, he state a theory which states that “organisms retain their identity throughout the organism’s life”.
