John Sinclair, “Slaughter at Stonehead Manor,” in Guitar Army The 70’s often have this falsehood around it for most see that time period as being peaceful, full of hippies and the free love movement. Although there was hippies and a large free love movement there was also a lot of death and destruction in the wake of the counterculture growth. Some of the most talked about instances of violence is the Kent State slaughter and the Manson family murders but, there were also smaller yet still severe examples of violence. “Slaughter at Stonehead Manor” involved a father whom, like many, saw his child as his property and because of that he can do whatever he wants which he did when he killed his daughter and three other individuals. In the article the motive is discussed as being because of the long-haired hippie movement that the daughter was involved with, let alone the article noted the color of the individuals involved in this crime meaning that the crime most likely had aspects of some sort of racial crime. These conflicts stem from the hate and distrust directed at the counterculture movement and the people that are a part of either culture. The counterculture movement was sticking it to the man
