As a whole, Let It Rain Coffee is from a Post-Colonial theoretical perspective. The story goes back and forth from Don Chan’s perspective of living in Los Llanos, while Esperanza wants to stay in New York City and live the American Dream. Esperanza believes the American Dream would be good to raise her two children in. Don Chan on the other hand, believes that the Colon family lives in a house with no roof. He wants the Colon family to move back to their native land. So, he convinces his son Santo by reminiscing stories about the past.
