In Re-Composing Space: Composition’s Rhetorical Geography, Roberta Binkley and Marissa Smith discuss the composition of rhetoric. It is believed that the rhetorical theory was created in ancient Athens around the late 5th century to the early 4th century. The authors discussed how rhetoric is uses and the changes that occurred throughout history. For example, the authors state that ancient Athens remains “the bedrock of rhetorical theory” (Binkley Smith 47).
