In Rick Bragg’s “Endless Summer”, he uses imagery to convey his experiences at the amount of time he had in the summer and how important an individual should spend it. He uses his sense of touch as he felt the “stewed and simmered” air in the hot weather where he played in. It was an unbearable weather for a child, but a natural feeling to the summer. The author then shows discontent on how his school constantly “smelled like floor polish and chalk dust.” To him, school alone was a place where time didn’t pass by much but instead it was a place where he lazily committed to. He believed that the little frivolous details were the things that made summer last long, but as it got smaller and shorter, summer became an event prior to another event.
