“The Big Chill,” by Gary Soto, expresses the emotion and loss of faded love. The poem makes the point that love goes away over time. The poem starts by saying, “We have lost something” (Soto 27). This refers not to a physical object but the feelings that made their love special. She no longer has those emotions that gave her relationship meaning.
