The first reason I would rate this book a B is because it has interesting prospective. This book is based on a blind girl in France, and a boy who joins a high end school. They have discrepancy in their lives, but still wind up meeting somehow. “One month later she is blind” (Doerr 23). This was after they got done sharing a back-story of Marie when she could see. This has interesting perspective because in the first chapter of the girl, they end it with the fact that she is blind now. You don’t get to see her rise, and fall because of her blindness. “Werner and Jutta find the Frenchman’s broadcasts again and again” (Doerr 53). This was before they find out that Germany was going to bomb the French. Werner and his sister find this out from the radio. This would be typical during WW2, for Germany to bomb other countries. Germany wanted to take over a lot of land. They did bomb the French; I thought it was a nice touch. It was a cool perspective to see how Werner feels about his country bombing others, and to see how Marie feels about leaving hers, because they are getting bombed. The school that Werner also gets accepted in is pretty accurate. Often the boys would go to high-class schools; the school that he went to was kind of like a military school. The historical references helped make this book the B that I gave
