Nora Ephron has received numerous awards in her career, most notably she was the recipient of an Academy Award for some of her previous publishing’s. Ephron received an award for “The Boston Photographs” which was very controversial at the time it was published. These heart-wrenching photos were taken by photographer Stanley Foreman during a fire. This essay contains all the key components for a great essay because it is descriptive, persuasive, and argumentative. These components cause the reader to surpass simply reading and helps them develop a connection with not only the author but the people depicted in the photos as well. Ephron’s approach, attitude, and tone stood out during the essay and balanced out the voice and style she used. Foreman stated that the photos were taken completely by mistake and he just happened to be in the right place, at the right time. Also, while apologizing in the beginning of the essay, Foreman clarified that he was simply trying to capture a shot above the ladder because the lighting was perfect. He ended up capturing more than he could have ever imagined with these somewhat controversial but also iconic photos. The biggest objection Foreman faced was whether or not to print the photos because it showed a woman falling to her death. Despite the discrepancy of publishing the photos, they were published nonetheless causing pandemonium. The negative reactions to the photos were expected because the reader can feel the agony of the woman falling to her death just by looking at it with no caption at
