In the short story “the Cold Equations” by Tom Godwin the author shows that sometimes you must sacrifice your self for the life of others even if you dont want to, through dialouge and conflict. In the story Marilyn is saying goodbye to her brother before she chooses to die “ Goodbye, Gerry.” This shows that she is sacrificing her self and is saying good bye to her brother because she has no choice and understands that she has to in order to save others. Here we see that she is getting ready to die “She stepped into the air lock and turned to face, only the pulse in her throat to betray the wild beating of her heart.” this shows that she is actually taking her final steps before she dies.
