Allan G. Johnson in this first chapter want to give us an idea how he perceives the differences in our society. He talks about race, gender ethnicity incapacities and sex orientation, and how everybody participates and form part somehow. He explain how we can change if we change to the idea that everybody is equal, and we must to start acting like that, but he says "we don't need to love one another or even like one another to work together or just share space in the world” and also says “the problem is that in the world as it is, huge issues involving race and gender shape her life and mine in dramatically different ways”.
