Tell real-life stories about simple things of how people can help like donating $1 per day, recycling, paying it foward, donating clothing, ext. Singer shouldn’t make it seem like you need to flip your whole life around because people are not going to think that is easy, which is going to make someone not want to do it at all. He needs to explain how doing these things will make you feel good inside about yourself as well (because as much as nobody wants to admit it, people are selfish). In this article he says, “If you still think it was…wrong of Bob…then it is hard to see how you could deny it is also very wrong not to send money…” This is also another form of manipulation that can be recognized by the person who is reading it, and is going to turn away people. He also says, “Unless, that is, there is some morally important difference between the two situation that I have overlooked” I feel as though Singer is using his education against the reader because he is trying to make them seem like they are dumb if they disagree with what he is saying, when most people who are reading would disagree with what he is saying. Singer needs to not compare murder to not donating money to a charity, and he shouldn’t compare active participation to passive participation. He is making it seem as though, you are making the decision to not donate, therefore you are making the decision to kill the child as well.
Another aspect of this article is that Singer does not only generalizes but he also assumes. A quote from the article says, “Does that mean it is alright for you not to do it?” Instead of inferring that the general person doesn’t donate, he should focus on an event that most people have donated such as Christmas, firefighters, homeless, bands, ext. He should focus on that feeling that you get when you know that you did something good, and your body starts to tingle because you are feeling altruistic. Do you remember having
