The primary purpose of Jefferson’s inaugural address was to make the country see the need of cooperation between both parties and the people, the exchange of ideas was necessary to reflect public good. In the second paragraph he states, “Let us, then, fellow citizens, unite with one heart and one mind. Let us restore to social intercourse that harmony and affection without which liberty and even life itself are but dreary things.”, Jefferson is conveying that people should come together as one, despite party boundaries, and that the losing party should still participate in government.
