The author, John Lewis Gaddis, earned his BA and MA from the University of Texas, along with his Ph.D., in 1968. He has taught at Indiana University Southeast, Ohio University, and has been a visiting professor at the Naval War College, Oxford, Princeton University, and the University of Helsinki. He currently holds the position of Robert A. Lovett Professor of Military and Naval History at Yale University. He has won several awards and recognitions throughout his career, and he is known for his works on the Cold War, such as Strategies of Containment, We Now Know, and The Cold War.
