A series of events unfolded which lead to the discovery of police misconduct in the LAPD. The series of discoveries ending up being called the “Rampart Scandal” (Boyer) The beginning of the Rampart Scandal began when an officer by the name of Rafael Perez was a suspect for stealing six pounds of cocaine out of the evidence room (PBS). As time went on Perez decided to take a plea deal with prosecutors to give information on other misconducts going on in the police department (PBS). Perez had given the names of around 70 officers which included their misconduct (PBS). From then a web linked a series of officers with street gangs, drug dealing, and the rap underworld (PBS).
