In the context of my video it simply means being politically aware by watching the news and keeping up with current events. A shockingly astounding number of Americans today aren't politically literate, and in this particular time, one cannot afford to be politically illiterate. People must be politically literate if they are to make an informed voter decision. Candidates tend to try to appease the current general population by conforming to whatever it is that the people currently want. Even if these desires diverge from their own personal beliefs. This inevitably leads to the unfulfilled demands of the public once a candidate is elected. A way to try to demystify how candidates truly feel about a particular issue is to research statements they’ve made in the past. By doing a bit of digging, a voter is able to discern if they should be voting for candidate x, y, or z.
Moreover, in my last point, I aim to emphasize the importance of political involvement. In this era of political apathy, being political involved places voters at an extreme advantage in several ways. Firstly, it allows voters to make firm stances on different issues and better choose candidates that align with their beliefs. Secondly, being politically involved allow voters to become aware of just how much each individual vote counts.
