Long ago in the Pacific Northwest, there were two Indian Tribes. They both had different religions, but they still relied on each other for food, shelter and clothing. The Makah were in charge of food, while the Chinook built strong, cedar-wood longhouses for the Indians to live in. They respected their religions in which the Chinook believed in Yahweh, and the Makah believed in Satan. There were also two boys named Lore and Joaquin who were enemies in the tribes. They hunted apart, but fished together, even though one was supposed to hunt and the other was supposed to build. The salmon was ready and smoked while slowly cooling down while they argued. Finally they decided they should fight for the fish. “Whoever stays alive should get the fish,” said Joaquin, “because if your god really favors you, you will stay alive.” Lore lifted his spear as Joaquin took out his battle staff as well. It was a complete Hunger Games for the fish as both boys slashed and stabbed each other. Lore pinned the Joaquin down to the ground and threw his spear out in the bushes. Lore had the chance to kill him, but he didn’t. Soon, Joaquin pushed the Lore into the fast moving rapids below. Lore drowned in the stampede of water below. Joaquin, having known that he ruined the name of Satan, he killed himself as the fish flew back into the rapids. Village chiefs realized they were missing and they sent a search crew for them. They later discovered the two dead bodies near the stream and blamed the other tribe for each boy’s death.
