The Victorian Era, named after Queen Victoria, during her reign from 1837 to 1901, was a time to show tasteful richness. Sumptuousness was the major point of the period. If they were not in, they were unfashionable. The century was all about being up to par, and appearance was key. The purpose of a wife was to show the wealth of her family, being the physical representation of beauty and revenue.
Perhaps the most uncomfortable aspect of the century were the undergarments. They were all about accentuation and sprucing up the lower body.
