Surviving the Scorch chapter 1 Loo is a troubled student at Chaska High School. Loo is a Freshman in the year 2074, on track to graduate 4 years later. Loo is balding and has a comb-over to hide that fact. He has shown side effects from climate change rising and changing society for the past 50 years. Loo is the class clown and will sob when he does not make his peers laugh catastrophically. Loo’s personality is different from the rest. He is impulsive and introverted, as his antics lead to frequent principal visits, suspensions, and constant bullying. His stupidity leads to his grades being by far the worst in class, and his only hope now, is his humor. They didn’t seem to care, which scared Loo. He couldn’t understand why he was the only one who cared. Then it hit him, why is there no progress being made towards global warming? In the past 50 years, it has only risen, so Loo started his research. He found that in 50 years, the only steps made to reduce it was to tell people to stop using plastic straws. “Why would that work?” Loo pondered, “That was for the turtles, and they’re literally extinct.” During his research, he found a live leak website on countries currently suffering. It was there he saw his home country, the Democratic Republic of Congo. After watching a couple of videos, and reading some articles, he found out what happened to his brother. This made Loo desire change, he dedicated his whole life to fixing Climate Change for good. He started by interviewing 10 scientists. No information was given to Loo, because “He’s just a kid” but that didn’t stop him. After telling his parents the news, they gave him permission to leave the house and go out to do his own research.
